How to: Add a data label for a data point in a chart.
Solution:
Select the chart, then the data marker to be labeled. Select the 'Insert' menu and select 'Data Labels...'.
To add a data label for a data point:
1) To select the chart where the new data label should appear:
a) If the chart is embedded on the worksheet, double-click on the chart. (A striped border with handles appears around the chart.)
b) If the chart is on a separate chart sheet, click the tab for the chart sheet and double-click on the chart. (A striped border with handles appears around the chart.)
2) Select the data marker to label. (Handles appear around the selected data marker.)
NOTE: Click to select the associated data series first and then click again on the desired data marker to select it.
3) Select the 'Insert' menu and select 'Data Labels...'. (The Data Labels dialog box appears.)

NOTE: The chart type associated with the selected data point determines the type of label that can be inserted.
4) Select the radio button for the desired type of label from the 'Data Labels' group.
5) Click 'OK'.
